Is the initify plugin experimental? When turning it on, I get smaller binaries but no luck booting them.

Does initify give me more protection or does it reduce kernel memory only?

initify doesn't affect security, only the kernel's runtime memory usage. Emese is still working out a few problems, you can track the latest version at https://github.com/ephox-gcc-plugins/initify. you can just copy initify_plugin.c from her git repo to the grsec tree and see if it works better. also we'll need boot logs and your config and the gcc version to debug any remaining issues.
