Discuss and suggest new grsecurity features

2.4.20

Postby miha » Sat Nov 30, 2002 9:11 am

Hello

I have the only one question - when grsec patch will be avaliable for 2.4.20 kernel?

Regards,
Miha.

I would also need a port of current cvs for 2.4.20 if possible..
Are there a lot of changes that need to be made?
Or does fixing of all failed hunks without modifying grsecurity's code be enough?

Well I was wondering this as well and yeah i think it will be there some time and i have faith Spender will release that. Currently i still run 2.4.19-grsec and personally have no direct intentions to upgrade to something else.

What i wanted to say is: it's free software. Co'moan, don't whine when it ain't released that fast. We're all humans, we're all different; so is our free time, for example.

Just recheck http://www.grsecurity.net every once in a while and check if there are beta's, rc or stables for 2.4.20-grsec :)

PS: OpenWall 2.4.20 is released; check http://www.openwall.com/linux

We are not asking to do as fast as possible, I understand that we all humans 8) Just asked when it will be avaliable

Yes, I know OWL patch is avaliable, that's great too! 8)

Thanks to all GRSec's developers for such a great software!

soon. I've just got back from my thanksgiving break, and there's still some stuff that needs to be done for PaX before I'll release 1.9.8.

Oh okay then i misunderstood. I fully agree with your post and used 2.2.x + OW in the past and i'm happy with GrSecurity for my 2.4.x kernels. It works great!

Spender, I really hope you don't mind me posting this here.

If you can't wait for 1.9.8, I've been tracking the kernel for 1.9.7d, and have the following available, which I use:

grsecurity-1.9.7d-2.4.20-rc1.patch.gz 57b2e544cc6e020617d8412ede0f88f7
grsecurity-1.9.7d-2.4.20-rc2.patch.gz bdfdb6dec3d3bf6e0afd3beec28bdf10
grsecurity-1.9.7d-2.4.20-rc3.patch.gz 1118c961232b703ac55eb1c0b9189326
grsecurity-1.9.7d-2.4.20.patch.gz 24ee93772836b5a081b14e579b598550

Be warned: I may be capable of resolving conflicts in C, but I know little of programming for the Linux kernel so these patches are very much use at your own risk. Spender may recall that I emailed him about this a while back, and although his opinion was that I caught the changes, there's always a possibility that I screwed something up.

why not use 1.9.8-rc1? It's more stable than 1.9.7d

Since your code is diffed against 2.4.20, I intend to use it. I'll probably track 1.9.8 (or whichever the latest 2.4.20 patch is at the time) against 2.4.21 release candidates should they come to pass, though.
